Buckingham RUFC
Towcestrians RFC

On another glorious day The Bears welcomed Towcester for what is historically a fairly even and competitive contest. Despite both clubs missing several players this turned out to be no different...

As both sides sussed each other out, it was The Bears who were to strike first. 8 mins in and following a penalty kick to touch, The Bears secured the resulting lineout allowing Connor to break through and score, Alfie adding the conversion 7-0

Just 2 mins later The Bears were over again following a take from the kick off, some strong running and excellent hands from the backs put Duke in at the corner. An excellent conversion from Alfie and The Bears were flying.. 14-0

At this point Tows were having no answers for The Bears quick play however The Bears were killing themselves with the penalty count as time and time again in there eagerness to apply pressure they were offside.

However, 14 mins and following some good defensive pressure this time, Henry P was able to pick up on a mistake and whilst he probably could have crossed himself unselfishly he shipped it out to Fin for an easy score. Alfie adding the conversion 21-0

After 21 mins The Bears were over again following an excellent scrum win against the head allowed Connor to pick up from the base of the scrum and bosh over for his 2nd of the day, Alfie again adding the extras to take The Bears into an impressive 28-0 lead and Tows were stunned.

Fairplay to Tows though as their heads were not dropping and afetr 27 mins following yet another penalty, although this time for a high tackle Tows took a quick tap and despite a great chop tackle by Ethan Tows were over for there first score, conversio missed.

Half Time Bears 28-5 Towcester

The break in proceedings and with a few changes made this seemed to dent The Bears flow. 39 mins and yes another penalty Tows were able to secure the lineout and maul themselves over for a well worked try 28-10

At this point Tows tails were up and despite some strong running and plenty of ground made it took until 51mins for them to score again following some missed tackles. 28-15

Tows were definatley having the better of the exchanges with Buckingham possibly guilty of thinking the job was done however The Bears were able to hold out to the latter stages as Tows crossed again after 30 mins with the conversion added 28-22 with The Bears gratful that Tows did not have their kicking boots on and even more grateful for the finla whistle.

Final Score Bears 28 - 0 Towcester

For the 1st half, despite the penalty count throughout The Bears were simply excellent and doing everything asked of them to put on 28 unanswered points against a useful Tows side. The 2nd half saw them run out of steam which Tows exploited however The Bears will learn from this and will celebrate the derby win.
